How Do You Fight Discouragement?

Ever have one of those days?  Today is one of “those” days.  You know the days.  The ones when you just want to go back to bed and put the pillow over your head, for like, a year??

My plan for today was to post the next part in the Moving Mountain prayer series, but discouragement is working overtime at trying to take us down around here today.  The kids are fighting, hubby is working way more than he wants to (but thank God his company is doing well, right?), and I’ve had enough of bad and ungrateful attitudes.  Which is ridiculous, because 90% of the time (ok, maybe it’s more like 80% of the time) my kids are wonderfully grateful and obedient.  But today it feels like they fight all the time!  Not true, I know, but it just seems that way.  Don’t you hate when that happens??

But, what do you do when you feel that way?  What’s your spiritual defense?  Do you press on, or back off?  My gut is telling me to praise the Lord and press into Him.  So maybe I’ll do that.  I can’t help but think that during these turbulent days in our country, that pressing in to our Lord Jesus is going to be more important than ever.  Will you join me, and make a commitment to increase your time in the Word, in prayer, and in praise?

It may seem like there is too much to overcome in your life today, but our Lord promises us that “with God, all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26).  For me today, and maybe for you too, the very best thing we can do is to “Let not your heart be troubled.” (John 14:1).

Won’t you join me in bucking discouragement and praising the Lord?  It’s likely the very best way we can kick the Enemy to the curb.

  1. I lived the past 4 years feeling that way. If I’m going to make it through the next 4 years, I will need to rely fully upon God to get me through. You are right, press in and give it up to Him.
